CIRPD Activities for Chronic Pain

Current Activities

With funding from Canadian Institutes of Health Research, CIRPD is developing a Chronic Pain Needs Assessment Survey. This survey will target people who have chronic pain to assess what their current challenges and information needs are. Our aim is to use the results to inform our Chronic Pain Self-Management Toolkit that is in its beginning stages.

Marc White PhD, is Vice-President, and Research Chair for the Canadian Pain Coalition which is creating resources for people with various chronic pain conditions.

CIRPD is hosting a series of free webinars for people with chronic pain. Our “Chronic Pain, The Journey Forward” series starts in the summer of 2011 and all recordings will be available to the public after the events.

Past Educational Conference and Workshops

Musculoskeletal Disorders and Chronic Pain Conference

In February of 2011, CIRPD hosted the Musculoskeletal Disorders and Chronic Pain: Evidence-based approaches for clinical care, disability prevention and claims management. This event drew 150 attendants from around the world. This conference aimed to present the latest research, evidence-based literature synthesis and real world application regarding assessment, management and prevention for musculoskeletal disorders, chronic pain and disability.

Women with Chronic Pain- Free Education Seminar

In 2007, CIRPD and Neal Pearson from Life is Now held a free 3.5 hour public education session for women with persistent pain titled Overcome Pain, Live Well Again. This presentation provides a new optimistic evidence-based approach which finds that understanding pain can promote recovery from chronic pain.

In 2006, CIRPD hosted three educational presentations by Dr. Kenneth Craig R. Psych. Dr. Craig presented a summary of current research on the potential for mood, worry or social problems to complicate the lives of people with chronic pain.
